How do I know what training package I need?
If your goal is to have your dog respond to obedience commands, and your dog has no specific behavior issues that need to be addressed, then the basic/extended obedience packages or private lessons would be best. If you are having behavior issues with your dog that need to be addressed, a behavior modification package would be best. Say your dog wants to act out when the family is together watching TV, I modify that behavior by replacing it with another behavior. This is where having a place command on your dog is very helpful. If you have a young dog that is still trying to master everyday house manners we have puppy packages that cover house manners and some socialization.

What is in-board training?
In-board training requires that your dog live with me in my house for a specified amount of time. During the time that your dog is here for training they are required to follow the same rules you have set for them at home. In this process I am the trainer and you become the handler. Your dog will know the commands and as the handler you must have knowledge of what your dog has been taught, instructions and guidance are provided free in a private lesson at the scheduled go home session, also provided to you free is a flash drive with video of your dog demonstrating the commands they have been taught.

What if I want to play an active roll in training my dog, should I take private lessons?
Yes, private lessons are offered if you want to be your dogs handler and trainer. If you choose private lessons I will be your trainer, teaching you and guiding you along the way to training your dog yourself. You will do most all of the work yourself, here at the farm during the lessons as well as at home in between lessons. If you don't enjoying working with your dog daily, if you get impatient or frustrated easily with your dog this is not the option for you. Remember if you don't enjoy training your dog, your dog isn't going to enjoy being trained, taking longer to achieve the same results, so be honest with yourself about how much effort you want to put into training before you decide to take on the task with private lessons.

If you train my dog will my dog only listen to you?
No, I am simply the one who teaches your dog how to understand the commands, hand signals and corrections. Think about this, who trains a service dog or a police dog? Professionals do, then the owner/partner is shown how to communicate the commands to the dog and what the appropriate hand signals and corrections are. I do the same for your pet dog. When training is completed we schedule a free private pick up lesson in which I show you how to properly give the commands, hand signals and corrections as well as provide a video of your dog demonstrating what they have been taught.

Why is training important?
Obedience training is a wonderful opportunity to strengthen the bond you have with your dog. Having a clear set of behavior and boundary rules for your dog is very important. With a clear set of rules and boundaries built on obedience training, your dog will be, not just a member of your family/pack, but a member of your team. As a team you and your dog are working to make life more fun and enjoyable, have fun with your dog, especially when training. Let's face it, a dog is a dog, they have dog behaviors but there are some dog behaviors that you don't want to live with, which is where obedience training and behavior modification play a part in creating a more harmonious bond between the dog and their family and a well behaved dog in social situations.

Why do you offer in-home boarding?
I have used kennel boarding before and have found that it is much more stressful on my dogs, they receive very little one on one interaction. I provide daily photo updates of your dog for added peace of mind while you're away. I offer in-home boarding for dogs who's owners need to be away and want their dogs to be cared for in a home environment instead of a kennel environment. I also offer in-home boarding for obedience training, this allows me to work with your dog throughout the day in short sessions, which provides a much more relaxed atmosphere for the dog to learn. Your dog will be a part of daily household activity thus giving me the opportunity to work with your dog on house manners as well as any training package you have selected. I focus on gaining your dog's trust through obedience training and regular daily activities, a dog will always work better for someone they trust and have fun with.

Why do you keep training and boarding dogs separated from other dogs?
Simply put, it's safer. I don't want anything to happen to your dog anymore than you do, safety is a priority. The yard is fenced to provide safe off leash outdoor play and exercise, fencing also adds protection to dogs from accidental injuries that occur when dogs are outside off leash. We keep our dogs separated from dogs who are here for training and/or boarding, the house and outdoor areas are laid out to support and aid in this.

What training collar do you use?
The training collar selection will be discussed and agreed upon at the free consultation, prior to beginning training, with the goal being to always use the minimum force rule. I prefer to use a Herm Sprenger prong training collar in most situations but there are exceptions, some dogs respond well to a simple martingale training collar. The prong training collar looks harmful but is safe, gentle and very effective when used properly. In the wrong hands any training collar can be harmful, I have found from years of personal experience that, when used properly, the prong training collar is very safe and effective. The prong collar works by applying uniform pressure around the dogs neck. This collar action mimics the feeling of the natural corrections of the mothers teeth on the neck. This is a very natural correction for dogs and most dogs respond very well. I have found with the prong collar it's like having automatic steering versus manual steering, therefore being much gentler on the dog in training and corrections. No Training Collar, of any type, should ever be left on an unattended dog.
